Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

BACK IN BUSINESS - With consecutive wins over the San Antonio Missions the last two nights, and a loss by Midland, the Hooks are now only two games out of first in the race for the 2nd half pennant.

TEXAS PRIDE - The Frisco RoughRiders come to Whataburger Field tonight to start a five-game series with the Hooks. This will be the final time fans can see the Astros and Rangers Double A affiliates play each other in Corpus Christi this year.

BEAUTIFY CORPUS CHRISTI- Whataburger Field will look a lot better on Saturday night as members of the Houston Texans' cheerleading squad will be on hand to perform during the game, as well as sign autographs and take pictures with fans. The girls will be joined by "Toro," the Houston Texans' mascot. For more information on the Texans' visit go to http://www.cchooks.com/news/?id=4667.

HOOKS SALUTE - Speaking of guests, tonight the Hooks will welcome some very special guests as members of the Texas Army National Guard that served in Iraq will be at the game. In addition to meeting fans at the main gate before the game, they will also help present the colors before the game. For more information on "Military Night" go to http://www.cchooks.com/news/?id=4663.

PLAY LIKE THE PROS - Before your kids head back to school let them finish the summer in style. The Corpus Christi Hooks have announced an exciting opportunity that will allow aspiring baseball players from all over South Texas to "Play Like the Pros." The entire Hooks coaching staff including Manager Dave Clark, Pitching Coach Joe Slusarski and Hitting Coach John Tamargo will be the primary instructors for the camp along with several Hooks players. This unique opportunity will offer the serious player a chance to not only meet these professional coaches and players, but learn first-hand the skills that have brought them up through the Houston Astros' organization. ONCE AGAIN, THE ONLY INSTRUCTORS FOR THIS CAMP WILL BE HOOKS' COACHES AND PLAYERS! Don't miss this chance to learn from the best.

HOW'S YOUR DINNER? - As a special thank you for being a part of the Hooks' inaugural season, the team is buying steak and lobster for all season ticket holders. Details on the free dinner at Katz 21 Steak and Spirits were sent out last week. If you are a season ticket holder and did not receive your postcard in the mail, please call 561-4665.

GAME NOTES - Be the most knowledgeable fan in the park on game day! Hooks' media notes are now available by 4:30 pm before each Hooks' home game on the club's website. Simply go to the ‘Game Central' section of the Hooks' home page at www.cchooks.com, and click on ‘Game Notes' for that evening's game. Individual player notes are also available. This up-to-date info on the team and players will also be prepared when the Hooks are on the road.

HAPPY HOUR - Come out to Whataburger Field early, as the announcement was made this morning for the "Hooks Happy Hour" that starts tonight and runs through the end of the season. From 5:30 - 6:30 pm every night, prices will be reduced on draft beer, import and premium bottle and can beer, house wine and mixed drinks. Call, premium and top shelf drinks will go for the well price. Also, we've added a chilled shrimp cocktail to our Cotton Club menu. So between 5:30 and 6:30 every night, you can come to the ballpark and drink your favorite beverage at a reduced price and snack on shrimp-on-ice. Does it get any better than that?

HOOKS IN NY TIMES - Corpus Christi got some feature coverage in yesterday's editions of the New York Times. The article, written by Bruce Weber, was a "day-in-the-life" feature on minor league umpires working their way toward the big leagues. The umpiring crew featured is the crew currently working this home stand at Whataburger Field, headed up by crew chief Chris Tiller. Weber and a photographer were in Corpus Christi earlier this month to prepare the piece, which includes two large sports page photos and a picture on the front page. Hey Corpus Christi, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere!

PARTY PORCH OPEN THIS SATURDAY - "What's this, a party?! Okay, this is ridiculous, everybody's invited to my place!" Bill Murray's character in the movie Stripes aside, we've just been given the ridiculous news that the Party Porch at Whataburger Field is actually available this Saturday, July 30th! The balcony seating area just outside the Cotton Club, arguably the best seats in the house for a Hooks' game, can be reserved for your group simply by calling the Hooks' Group Sales department at 361-561-4665. Ask for "Broadway Joe" or "At'em Adam" to get "hooked up" today with a really fun night out this Saturday!

HOOKS' PAGE IN CALLER-TIMES - Devoted Hooks' fans are aware by now of the terrific coverage of the team in the sports pages of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. On Thursdays, the Hooks' Page provides even more in-depth coverage of the team and stories about the players as written by beat writer Greg Rajan. You can check out today's Hooks' Page on line by going to

HOOKS TRIVIA - The Hooks have hit exactly one grand slam home run this season. Who hit it? Reply to info@cchooks.com with your answers. A winner will be selected at random from the correct entries received, and that individual will get a Nolan Ryan Bobblehead doll. Good luck!
