Erie SeaWolves News Release
Gage Workman's walk-off home run gave the SeaWolves (69-52) a 5-4 win over Richmond (56-68).
Erie starter Jackson Jobe departed with two out in the second inning after two hits and a walk. He threw 32 pitches in the second inning and departed due to pitch count limits. Michael Bienlien retired Carter Howell to strand the bases loaded in relief of Jobe.
In the third, Bienlien ran into trouble. With two on and one out, Diego Velasquez hit an RBI single to give Richmond a 1-0 lead. Matt Higgins followed with a sacrifice fly, making it 2-0. Later in the frame, Bienlien threw a wild pitch to score Velasquez and make it 3-0.
Erie scored their first run in the fourth on an RBI single by Eliezer Alfonzo against Richmond starter Nick Sinacola.
In the fifth, Erie rallied against Sinacola. Chris Meyers drew a two-out walk. Liam Hicks then singled. Ben Malgeri drove a two-run double to tie the game at 3-3. Seth Corry replaced Sinacola and allowed an RBI single to Alfonzo, giving Erie a 4-3 lead.
Richmond tied the game in the seventh against Angel Reyes. Turner Hill singled and advanced from first to throw on an errant back-pick by Hicks. Higgins scored Hill with a grounder to tie the game at 4-4.
Workman batted against Wil Jensen with one out in the ninth and launched a solo homer to straightaway center.
Workman's homer gave him four walk-off RBI hits this season.
Matt Seelinger (1-1) worked two scoreless innings and earned the win over Jensen (4-5)
The series continues on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. with Wilkel Hernandez facing Dylan Cumming.
