New York Boulders News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester Tornadoes' starting pitcher Shawn Gilblair threw eight solid innings and designated hitter Nick Salotti drove in three runs to lead their club over the Rockland Boulders 13-2 on Tuesday night in Can-Am League action.
The Tornadoes jumped all over Rockland pitching, smacking 16 hits in the game with nine of them coming off Boulders' starter Roger Lincoln.
Rockland showed early promise, as Dave LaPoint's club took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Tommy Giles, who homered last night for the Boulders, picked up an RBI double to bring home Cristobal Santana.
Salotti, though, would quickly give Worcester the 2-1 edge in the bottom of the frame after belting a two-run home run off Lincoln.
The Boulders tied it in the fourth on a RBI groundout from Santana that plated Vic Buttler from third after he led off with a triple. However, that would be the last run Rockland brought across in the contest.
Worcester would then put the game out of reach, and rattled off 11 straight runs after the Boulders tied it. At least one Tornado nabbed a hit in the game, while four collected two or more RBIs.
Gilblair picked up his second win of the year, as he only allowed three hits and struck out five over eight. Lincoln is charged with his third loss of the season after giving up eight runs, six of them earned, in 5 2/3 innings of work.
John Velasquez takes to the hill for the Boulders in game two of this four game series. Worcester sends Kevin Cooper to the mound. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
