Down East Wood Ducks News Release
Kinston, N.C. - For the second time in three days the Down East Wood Ducks plated double-digit runs, taking down the P-Nats, 12-4, on Education Day, Wednesday.
The Woodies (32-15) take a two games to one series lead, and are now 10-1 in day games this season.
Down East wasted no time in getting on the board. Yonny Hernandez was hit by a pitch to begin the ballgame, and Anderson Tejeda followed with a double to put two men in scoring position. Ryan Dorow then lifted a sac fly to center to plate Hernandez. Diosbel Arias then doubled to right to score Tejeda, and then Sam Huff singled up the middle scoring Arias, and putting the Woodies ahead, 3-0.
Then in the sixth, the Wood Ducks sent 11 men to the plate and scored six times against Grant Borne (loss, 1-3). Dorow led off the inning with a home run to left, his eighth of the season, and fourth in three games, to make it 4-0. Later in the frame with two aboard, Yohel Pozo ripped a double down the left field line to plate a pair. Later in the inning, Julio Pablo Martinez then bounced a ball to second base and Cole Freeman threw high to first, as the Woodies scored two more runs on the play to make it 8-0. Hernandez then capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI single past a drawn in infield. He reached base five times in the ballgame.
Bourne lasted just three innings, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on ten hits, he walked one and struck out three.
Down East kept the pressure on against Hayeden Howard in the fourth. With the bases loaded Martinez and Hernadez each drew walks to push the lead to 11-0. Then Tejeda reached on an infield single to increase the advantage to 12-0.
Jason Bahr (win, 3-1) was sharp for the Woodies on the mound. He gave up just one run over 5.1 innings, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out five. He retired the first seven P-Nats to begin the ballgame, and lowered his ERA to 1.99.
The lone run against Bahr came in the sixth. Aldrem Corredor reached on a one out single, and then Bahr gave up a walk and hit a batter to load the bases. Alex Eubanks (save, 2) then took over for Bahr, and allowed an inherited run to come across on a fielder's choice to Jakson Reetz.
The P-Nats added an unearned run against Eubanks in the eighth, and then plated two more in the ninth, on a two run single from Corredor, who scored two runs and drove in a pair in the loss. Overall Eubanks provide the Wood Ducks 3.2 innings in relief, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits, he walked one and struck out two.
The Woodies go for a series win Thursday night at 7 p.m. when they send left-hander Francisco Villegas (0-2, 5.1) to the mound to face off with Potomac lefty Nick Raquet (2-5, 6.39). It's Thirsty Thursday at Grainger Stadium, where fans can purchase $1 Busch Light and Natural Light, presented by Budweiser. The broadcast will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 960AM The Bull, and online on 960thebull.com as well as on the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio Apps.
