Iowa Cubs News Release
Des Moines, IA -Chicago Cubs pitcher, Kerry Wood, tries to take one more step toward returning to the Major Leagues when he takes the mound for the Iowa Cubs, Monday night, June 13, against the New Orleans Zephyrs. Game time from Principal Park in Des Moines is at 7:05pm and the game will be shown live via broadband by B2 Networks, the exclusive broadband broadcast partner for the Iowa Cubs.
A National League all-star in 2003, Wood has not pitched since April 30 when he was sidelined with a strained right shoulder. The right-hander has been on the disabled list since May 3 after making only five starts. The big Texan is 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. With the Cubs in 2nd place in the Central Division race, this performance by Wood will be carefully watched by the Wrigley Field faithful.
"We know Cubs fans around the world are some of the most loyal fans in all of sports," said Greg Bell, B2 Networks Owner and CEO. "We are pleased to give fans a chance to watch Kerry Wood as he works his way back to Chicago."
If he has no setbacks, Wood could be back in Chicago by the end of the month. Cubs Manager Dusty Baker said Wood has been working on adjustments in his mechanics during his time on the disabled list. "He's been working on things, so over time you might even see a new and improved Woody, which is even better." Baker said.
