Oklahoma City Comets News Release
The Oklahoma RedHawks defeated the Iowa Cubs 9-3 behind a complete game performance from starter Mike Wood (3-0) Friday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The RedHawks (20-20) ended a four-game losing streak, their longest of the season, with the win.
Jason Botts led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and five RBIs. Eight of the nine RedHawk starters had at least one hit as the RedHawks scored nine runs on 16 hits.
The RedHawks scored two runs in the first and third and three in the fourth inning to go up 7-0. Iowa added two in the fifth to make it 7-2. The RedHawks scored two more in the eighth and Iowa added a solo homer from Micah Hoffpauir in the top of the ninth to make it 9-3.
After using five pitchers in a loss Thursday, the RedHawks needed a good start to take pressure off of the bullpen. Wood responded with his first career nine-inning complete game, allowing three runs on six hits.
Iowa starter J.R. Mathes (4-3) took the loss by allowing seven runs on nine hits in four innings of work.
The third game of this series is set for 7:05 pm CDT at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
