LAST GAME:
The Cubs handed the RedHawks their first four-game losing streak, winning last night 9-2. Every Cub starter had at least one hit as the Cubs produced nine runs on 15 hits. The RedHawks had to use five pitchers because starter Josh Rupe left the game before the start of the third inning. Scott Shoemaker was the second of four RedHawk relievers and took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in 2.1 innings.
ROSTER MOVES: Ramon Vazquez
had his contract purchased yesterday by Texas, and A.J. Murray was optioned to Oklahoma from Texas.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Mike Wood
returns to make his fourth start of the season for the RedHawks after being optioned from Texas earlier this week. Wood went 0-1 with a 7.53 ERA in three starts for Texas. J.R. Mathes gets the call for the Cubs.
GOING LONG:
The RedHawks have hit at least one homer in seven straight games after Marlon Byrd's solo home run in the seventh inning last night. The RedHawks have hit 19 in the month of May after hitting just nine in 24 games in April.
MARLON BYRD:
Byrd has hit safely in 11 of the last 13 games after going 1-for-4 with his team-high fifth homer last night. Byrd is tied for third in the PCL with 51 hits, and sixth with a .362 average.
DREW MEYER:
Drew Meyer has an 11-game hitting streak dating back to April 15 after going 2-for-4 with a run Tuesday night. This is the longest streak for the RedHawks this season. In the last 11 games Meyer has played, he is hitting .395 (15-38) with an RBI.
SIX STRONG:
The RedHawks are 13-2 when the starter gets through the sixth inning. A RedHawk starter hasn't made it through the sixth since last Friday when Josh Rupe pitched six innings in a win at Las Vegas. In his last two RedHawk starts, Wood has gone six and seven innings.
LEFTIES:
The RedHawks face a lefty for the second night in a row. For the season, they are 5-8 against lefties. The Hawks are hitting .277 with six home runs off of a lefthander.
