Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, Ky. - Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) second baseman Kean Wong has been named a Midwest League Postseason All-Star, becoming the tenth Hot Rod to receive the honor in the franchise's six-year history. The voting was conducted by all Midwest League field managers.
Wong is batting .310 (125-403) for the season, and was also voted a Mid-Season All-Star by the Midwest League. He was selected in the fourth round by the Rays in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, and led all Rays farmhands last season with a .328 average while playing in the Gulf Coast League. He was recently voted the league's best batting prospect, and the top defensive second baseman in a poll conducted by Baseball America.
He launched his first professional home run earlier this month against Lake County, and has amassed 20 extra-base hits to compliment 13 stolen bases. In addition to the poll, Wong is statistically the best second baseman on the circuit. He has committed just six errors entering tonight, which boasts a .986 fielding percentage. Entering play tonight, Wong's .310 average only trails Wynton Bernard of West Michigan, who was named the Midwest League's Most Valuable Player.
Wong and the Hot Rods will look for the series victory against Fort Wayne in the rubber match on Tuesday night. Bowling Green will turn to left-hander Ben Griset, and the Pepsi Pre-Game Show will begin at 5:50 p.m. CT on 1340 WBGN - The Ticket. First pitch will be tossed at 6:05 p.m. CT. The Hot Rods return to Bowling Green Ballpark for the final three regular-season games of the campaign on Saturday, August 30.
