Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI)- The Captains won their sixth straight series with a 3-2 win over Lansing on Tuesday Night. The Captains finished the season with a 7-7 record against the Lansing Lugnuts. Lake County now has a Magic Number of 1 to clinch a playoff spot.
Lake County scored two runs in the top of the second inning. The Captains used four hits, including RBI singles from Grant Fink and Claudio Bautista. The score after two innings was 2-0 Captains. The Captains tacked on a run in the top of the fifth inning, with a runner on third base and one out, Mike Papi hit a sacrifice fly to center field and the score was 3-0.
Lansing scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Chaz Frank and David Harris singled to begin the inning. Rowdy Tellez singled a run home and the scond run scored on a fielder's choice. The score was 3-2 Captains after eight innings.
LHP Luis Lugo (9-9) was the starting pitcher for Lake County. Lugo earned the win after pitching five shitout innings and allowing five hits, two walks and he fanned four. The Captains used three pitchers in relief. The save went to Robbie Aviles his first on the season.
RHP Jeremy Gabryszwski (6-6) started the game for the Lugnuts and took the loss. Gabryszwski pitched six innings and allowed six hits, three earned runs, two walks and seven strikeouts. The Lugnuts used two relief pitchers to finish off the ballgame.
Lake County will stay on the road for a six game road trip. On Wednesday the Captains will open a three-game series with the Great Lakes Loons. The Captains will start RHP Mitch Brown (7-8, 3.39) and the Great Lakes will counter with RHP Scott Barlow (6-6, 4.41). First Pitch will be at 7:05 PM from Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan.
