Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves won their fourth straight game on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park and are a season-high two games above .500 following a 6-2 victory over the Trenton Thunder.

Trenton struck for a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off of Erie starter Victor Larez. Ramon Flores and J.R. Murphy each walked to put a pair on with one out for Kyle Roller. Roller squeaked a double inside the line in right field, plating Flores for a 1-0 lead. Rob Segedin lifted a sacrifice fly to right, plating Murphy for a 2-0 lead.

Thunder starter Caleb Cotham held the SeaWolves scoreless for three innings before the bats came alive in the last of the fourth. Wade Gaynor, Ramon Cabrera and James McCann all singled to load the bases with no outs. With one out, Corey Jones laced an RBI single into right, cutting the Trenton lead to a run at 2-1. Marcus Lemon followed with a game-tying single up the middle. Daniel Fields followed and belted a bases-clearing triple, giving Erie a 5-2 lead.

Following a rocky first inning, Larez was sharp as he went on to toss five shutout innings, retiring 16 of the next 17 batters he faced. He also finished his outing retiring 10 straight.

Erie added an insurance run in the seventh. Jamie Johnson led off with a walk and advanced to third on a pair of groundouts. Cabrera singled home Johnson for a 6-2 lead.

Will Startup tossed three shutout innings in relief of Larez to preserve the win, earning his second save.

Larez (2-0) allowed two runs on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings.

The SeaWolves host the Trenton Thunder on Saturday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park at 1:35 p.m. Lefty Kyle Lobstein (1-1, 4.96 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Nik Turley (0-1, 7.82 ERA).
