Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron, OH - After Thursday night's 10-inning offensive-marathon, the Aeros (5-10) and Baysox (9-7) were back at it in Akron on Friday night, with the Baysox prevailing, 13-5.

Again, the story was about Bowie's offense, which has now plated 26 runs in the first two games of the four-game series. The Baysox's bats were led by catcher Luis Martinez, who replaced Thursday's offensive leader, catcher Caleb Joseph, in the bottom of the second inning after Joseph sustained an injury in his at-bat in the top half of the inning.

Assisting Martinez was rightfielder Henry Urrutia. The duo combined to go 4-for-8 at the dish and knocked in six of the Baysox's 13 runs. This was Urrutia's first game with Bowie this season, as he was transferred from short-season Aberdeen.

The Aeros received another solid start from starting pitcher Toru Murata, who went 5.2 innings pitched and allowed one earned run while striking out four and walking one.

Akron led 3-1 entering the sixth inning. Murata was cruising into the sixth and retired the first two hitters of the inning before an error by leftfielder Delvi Cid led to a walk and single before Murata was relieved by Austin Adams, who was making his season debut with Akron. Adams surrendered a two-run single to Urrutia, giving three unearned runs to Murata and making him the losing pitcher of record.

From there, the Baysox were able to plate two more in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-3. Akron did answer back in the bottom half of the seventh, when Tyler Holt and Jose Ramirez led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Jesus Aguilar came up big with a double to the center field wall, scoring both Holt and Ramirez and cutting the Bowie lead to 6-5. However, the Aeros momentum was shortly eliminated when Aguilar was doubled-up off second after a line-out to center when he was caught trying to get a big jump.

The wheels completely fell off for the Aeros in the eighth as the Baysox plated seven runs on just four hit and extended the lead to 13-5. Akron was plagued by errors and passed balls all evening, which allowed Bowie to generate nine runs in two innings. Of the 13 Baysox-plated runs, just three were earned runs given up by Aeros pitchers. Akron relief pitcher, Shawn Armstrong, got the brunt of the Baysox's runs, surrendering five runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

On the flip side, Bowie also received a solid start from pitcher Mike Wright. Wright went five innings, giving up three earned runs, while striking out three and walking four. Relievers Chris Petrini and Chris Jones closed the game out, giving up two runs, while striking out three in the final four innings.

The Aeros will look to salvage the series finale tomorrow at Canal Park, as first-pitch is set for 2:05 p.m. Probable starters for match-up are LHP Jake Petit (1-0, 5.51 ERA) and RHP Danny Salazar (0-3, 6.39 ERA), for Bowie and Akron, respectfully. After that, Akron will next host the Trenton Thunder for a series starting Monday night at 6:35. The game will be carried live on Fox Sports 1350 AM, and online at www.sportsradio1350.com.
