IT WAS A NIGHT TO REMEMBER : Portland celebrated the anniversary of their 20th season game on Thursday night, but fell to the Rock Cats 17-1...The loss was the largest defeat since falling 18-1 to the Reading Phillies on August 19, 2009 (largest loss in franchise history)...The Sea Dogs have dropped five of seven at Hadlock Field...Right-hander Matt Barnes, the top Pitching Prospect in the Red Sox system according to Baseball America, makes his third start of the season.
ROCK CATS CELEBERATE 20, WITH 21 HITS : New Britain scored in seven of nine innings, pounded out 21 hits, en route to a 17-1 win over the Sea Dogs in the series opener...Antoan Richardson led the attack with four hits and 3 RBI...James Beresford reached base safely in all six at-bats...Richardson and former UMaine standout Curt Smith had 3 RBI...Beresford, Josmil Pinto andSmith each had three hits...Xander Bogaerts had two of Portland's three hits, including a run-scoring double in the eighth...Alex Meyer tossed six scoreless frames on one hit and five strikeouts, earning his first win in the Twins system.
