Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves lost a heartbreaker to the Kitchener Rangers Friday night at the Sudbury Arena by a final score of 4 -2. The Wolves played their hearts out and improved immensely as the game went on, but a late breakaway goal for the Rangers turned out to be the difference in the contest.
The Wolves and Rangers played back and forth hockey early in the 1st period. The Wolves came out strong, and created a couple a good scoring chances, but were unable to capitalize. The Rangers opened the scoring on the powerplay as DYLAN DI PERNA blasted one home from the top of the circle. RYAN MACINNIS added the second goal for the Rangers. At the end of 20 minutes, the Wolves found themselves down by 2. Kitchener outshot the Wolves 13-6.
The Wolves were a different team in the 2nd period, coming back to tie the game up at two. However, the period could have been very different if it weren't for the tremendous play of goaltender, TROY TIMPANO. Before the Wolves could get much going, TIMPANO made back-to-back point blank saves. The first was a breakaway save, followed by a one-timer from the slot. DAVID LEVIN got the Wolves on the board with his second goal of the year. It was a powerplay marker assisted by DMITRY SOKOLOV. Shortly after, PAVEL JENYS notched his first goal of the year. LEVIN and SOKOLOV picked up their second points of the night with the assists on the goal. After two, shots were even at 21 apiece.
The Wolves came out flying in the final period of play. They generated a number of quality scoring chances but Kitchener goalie DAWSON CARTY was able to shut the door. TROY TIMPANO also continued his stellar play in the third to keep his team in the game. Unfortunately, late in the period, GUSTAF FRANZEN scored the game winning on a breakaway. MASHERIN added the empty netter in the final minute to solidify the win for the Rangers. The Wolves outshot the Rangers 34-30.
The Wolves complete their four-game homestand on Sunday, October 4th, against the Sarnia Sting. Game time is 2:00PM. Tickets are on sale at the Sudbury Community Arena Box Office. To purchase tickets, visit the Arena Box Office after 11am on Sunday or visit www.greatersudbury.ca.
