Worcester IceCats News Release

WORCESTER, MA - The Worcester IceCats were up-ended by the Chicago Wolves 6-1 Friday night at Worcester's Centrum Centre.

The Wolves, the American Hockey League's defending Calder Cup champions, netted three power play goals and a shorthanded goal en-route to handing the IceCats their most lopsided defeat of the season.

On the plus-side, Worcester captain Eric Nickulas scored a shorthanded goal of his own in the third period. Nickulas, who missed the previous three games with an injury, put the 'Cats within two goals when he scored 2:08 into the final period.

Chicago's Simon Gamache netted a hat trick while veterans Rob Brown and Steve Maltais each collected three assists.

The IceCats host the Utah Grizzlies Saturday night at 7:05 PM in the first-ever GUARANTEED HAT TRICK NIGHT. If an IceCat fails to score a hat trick, everyone in attendance can redeem vouchers (which will be handed out as fans enter on Saturday) for a ticket to the game on Wednesday, January 29th vs. the Portland Pirates. Also, the IceCats will be awarding a lucky fan a trip for two to the AHL All-Star Classic on February 2nd and 3rd in Portland, Maine. The first 2,000 fans will receive an IceCats All-Star Trading card featuring John Pohl, Justin Papineau and Sergei Varlamov.
