Hunter & Vellinga Join Bulldogs

The Hamilton Bulldogs announced today that they have recalled forward J.J. Hunter from the Columbus Cottonmouths (ECHL) and have signed Mike Vellinga from the Dayton Bombers (ECHL) to a professional tryout contract.

Hunter, a 22-year-old native of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, has played in 42 games with Columbus this season and has registered 7g-21a-28pts, along with 36 penalty minutes. The 6'1, 185 pound forward, played for the Bulldogs in one regular season game and one playoff game at the end of last season. Hunter was originally signed by the Edmonton Oilers organization on August 19, 2002.

Vellinga, a 6'2, 212 pound blue-liner, has skated in 37 contests for Dayton this season posting 2g-12a-14pts and 69 minutes in penalties. The 24-year-old has played in a total of 18 AHL games in his career, all with the Saint John Flames (0g-1a-1pt). The Chatham, Ontario native was orignally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks, 184th overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will look to extend their road unbeaten streak to 15 games, which would tie an AHL all-time record, as they face the Manitoba Moose at the Winnipeg Arena tonight.
