SPRINGFIELD, MA ... American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced today that Houston Aeros defenseman Curtis Murphy has been added to the Canadian AHL All-Star roster for next week's 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic.

Murphy has been added due to an injury to Manitoba Moose defenseman Brian Chapman.

Murphy, 27, enters the weekend with 17 goals – tops among all AHL defensemen – and 14 assists for 31 points in 45 games for the Aeros this season, while ranking third on the team with a plus-15 rating. Murphy, who made his NHL debut with Minnesota earlier this year, has not missed a game since April 2001, appearing in all 125 matches since Houston joined the AHL last season.

A native of Kerrobert, Sask., Murphy will be appearing in his second AHL All-Star Classic. He scored a goal and was a plus-3 in the Canadian All-Stars' 13-11 victory over PlanetUSA in St. John's last year.

The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine, home of the AHL's Portland Pirates. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 2, with the 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 8:00 p.m. ET, and concludes with the annual All-Star Game at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday, February 3. The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will be televised to 60 million households on 15 regional television partners in the United States and on Rogers Sportsnet nationally in Canada.
