'Wolves Fall in 16 Innings to Trenton 9-6

The SeaWolves dropped their longest game of the season on Thursday afternoon, 9-6 to the Trenton Thunder in 16 innings at Jerry Uht Park

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the bottom of the first against Trenton starter Shaeffer Hall. Jamie Johnson led off with a single up the middle and Brandon Douglas walked putting two on for Rawley Bishop. Bishop, on the first pitch of the at bat, lifted his third home run of the season over the wall in left for a 3-0 lead. With two outs, Francisco Martinez reached on an infield single and was tripled home by Adam Calderone. For Calderone it was his first hit as a SeaWolf and it gave the 'Wolves a 4-0 lead.

Trenton struck back for a pair on the top of the second against Erie starter L.J. Gagnier. Cody Johnson led off with a double and was tripled home by Melky Mesa making it a 4-1 game. Mesa would come home to score later in the inning on a passed ball making it a 4-2 game.

In the third, Austin Krum led off with his second double of the game. Krum stole third and scored on an Austin Romine groundout making it a 4-3 game.

The SeaWolves took a two-run lead in the bottom of the third when Audy Ciriaco grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Bishop for a 5-3 lead.

Trenton tied the game up in the fifth. Romine doubled with two outs and was brought home on a game-tying two-run home run from Bradley Suttle making it a 5-5 contest.

The score remain tied until the 15th. Corban Joseph led off and singled against reliever Ramon Garcia. Joseph moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a Romine flyout. Suttle hit a sacrifice fly scoring Joseph making it a one-run game at 6-5.

Erie tied the game in the bottom of the 15th. With runners on first and second with two outs, Douglas singled to center, scoring pinch runner Shawn Roof making it a 6-6 game.

Trenton promptly regained the lead in the 16th. Mesa led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. Mesa scored on a Ray Kruml double for a 7-6 lead. Addison Maruszak followed with a two-run home run to left for a 9-6 lead.

The 'Wolves could get no closer as they went down in order in the bottom of the 16th.
