The SeaWolves had their three-game winning streak snapped with an 8-6 loss Friday night at Jerry Uht Park.
The âWolves struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Altoona starter Kyle Bloom. Shortstop Danny Worth hit his fourth home run of the year to give Erie a 1-0 lead.
The Curve scored their first runs of the game off of Erie starter Luke French in the top of the third inning. Third baseman Jason Bowers hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. Catcher Miguel Perez followed up the blast with a double to turn the lineup over for leadoff man Shelby Ford. Ford would single to put men on first and third. Designated hitter Melvin Dorta drove in Perez on a fielder's choice, to give the Curve a 2-1 lead.
The âWolves wasted no time as they answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Designated hitter Jeff Frazier singled to left, which was followed by a walk drawn by catcher Dusty Ryan. Deik Scram moved the runners over to second and third for first baseman Ryan Roberson. Roberson laced a singles into right-center to drive in Frazier and Ryan to give Erie the 3-2 advantage.
The Curve regained the lead for good in the top of the fifth as Bowers led-off with a double. Ford then singled through the hole at short to put men on first and third. Dorta followed that up with a double that scored Bowers and put Ford at third. Ford then scored on left fielder Jonel Pacheco's single to give Altoona a 4-3 lead.
Both teams exchanged single runs in the sixth to put the score at 5-4.
The Curve pulled away in the top of the seventh as Pacheco led the inning off with a walk. That was followed by two singles from Delaney and Webster, loading the bases. Pacheco scored on a sacrifice fly from Cruz. Bowers then stepped to the plate and delivered once again with a two-run single down the right field line. Bowers was thrown out at third to end the inning. But not before the Curve scored three and took an 8-4 lead.
The âWolves chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Roberson led off the inning with a single. Second baseman Will Rhymes then reached first on a fielder's choice.
