Aerodynamics...

* Moving On Up...The Aeros snagged another win yesterday afternoon, their fourth in five games, at the hands of the second-place Harrisburg Senators. The 5-3 decision pulled Akron to within 3.5 games of division-leading Bowie, and the Aeros have now gained 3.5 games on the slumping Baysox in the last six days. This is also the closest Akron has been to first place since April 18th. The Aeros got on the board first yesterday in the third inning when RF Bronson Sardinha singled home LF Chris Gimenez with two outs. In the fourth, 2B Brandon Pinckney led off with a triple and scored on a single by CF Jose Constanza, who then stole second and came home on a two-out hit by SS Josh Rodriguez. The Aeros finished their scoring in the seventh on an RBI single by 1B Matt Whitney and a sacrifice fly by Pinckney.

* Dude, You're Gettin' Edell...Akron starter Ryan Edell was excellent yesterday in shutting down the Harrisburg lineup. The Senators managed just four hits off the left-hander, who also racked up five strikeouts in his seven innings of work while pushing his record to 2-4 on the season. Edell worked around a one-out double in the first, and got a double play ball in the second when the Senators had runners on first and second and one out. In the bottom of the sixth, the Senators used an error and a single to put runners on the corners with one down, but Edell again got an around-the-horn twin-killing to end the threat. The Senators got on the board with three runs against reliever Erik Stiller in the eighth, but Wisconsin native Scott Roehl doused the fire by getting the final two outs in the inning and closer Randy Newsom then notched his 15th save of the year and the 33rd of his Akron career with a scoreless ninth inning.

* Woes with the Baysox...The Aeros are just 4-6 against Bowie entering tonight's opening contest of this three-game series, and the Sox are the only team in the Southern Division Akron does not have a winning record against (including a 1-1 mark against Reading). The Aeros are hitting just .242 as a team against Bowie pitching and the lone bright spot has been Josh Rodriguez, who is hitting .324 (12-37) with three doubles, two home runs, five runs scored and three RBI while playing in all 10 games against the Baysox this season. Rodriguez is also the only Akron regular hitting better than .260 against Bowie this year, while the Sox boast seven such hitters and also carry a .285 team average against Aeros pitching.

* Whitty Remarks...Akron 1B Matt Whitney carries a six-game hitting streak into tonight's game and the West Palm Beach, FL native has five RBI in his last five games. During the hitting streak, Whitney is batting .429 (9-21) with two doubles and a home run, including a .538 (7-13) mark in the four-game set in Harrisburg. He has raised his average 25 points from a season-low .215 on May 24th to .240 entering play tonight, but is still hitting just .200 in the month of May.
