
'Dogs match a franchise-record with 21 hits - score 11 runs with 2-outs

(Manchester, NH) - The Portland Sea Dogs (33-20) and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (19-34) established franchise records for time of game for 9-innings, playing the series opener in 4 fours and 9 minutes on Friday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Portland scored 11 runs with 2-outs and held on to beat the Fisher Cats 15-10.
Iggy Suarez clocked 3-run scoring doubles and finished with a career-high 5 RBI. Tony Granadillo went 4-for-7 and knocked in all four of his runs (season-high) with two outs. Zach Daeges collected three hits and 3 RBI - Jeff Corsaletti reached base five times.
Mike James (2-1) worked 1.1 innings in relief of starter Kris Johnson to earn the win. Johnson lasted just 2.2 innings, surrendering eights and seven runs (six earned).
Beau Vaughan fired three scoreless innings and fanned five to earn his sixth save of the year. Vaughan entered the game in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and Portland leading 14-10. The righty retired Travis Snider on a 1-2-3 double play and fanned Jacob Butler to end the inning. Snider smacked the first pitch off the right leg of Vaughan, who recovered to make the play.
Ricky Romero surrendered six runs on eight hits in just three innings pitched. Jamie Vermilyea yielded nine hits and eight runs in 2.2 innings to take his third loss of the year.
Portland jumped in front 6-0, scoring a run in the first and five in the second. Suarez smacked his first 2-run double in the second inning to give Portland a 3-0 lead. Corsaletti followed with a sacrifice fly, Granadillo delivered an RBI single and Daeges nailed a run-scoring double.
New Hampshire turned the tables in the third inning, blasting Johnson and James for seven runs. Snider, Butler and Scott Campbell collected RBI singles. Brian Jeroloman drew a bases-loaded walk and Chris Gutierrez tied the game with a 2-run single. The seventh run scored on a fielding error by James. The Fisher Cats went up two in the fourth inning on Ryan Patterson's single.
Portland sent nine men to the plate in the second and fifth - scoring five runs in both frames. During the fifth inning, Suarez tied the game at eight with a 2-run double. Granadillo added an RBI single and Daeges followed with a 2 RBI double. The 'Dogs led 11-8 and scored three more times off Vermilyea in the sixth inning - Suarez and Granadillo knocked in all three runs.
The game featured a 5 and 1/2 minute delay in the eighth inning when New Hampshire had one player (Scott Campbell) and two coaches (Gary Cathcart & Ken Joyce) ejected for arguing balls and strikes.
Portland has won 7 of 11 from the Fisher Cats and will play game two of their series on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:05 PM. RHP Matt Goodson (2-2, 4.50) will face LHP Brett Cecil (0-1, 4.63). Notes...Portland's 4 hour 9 minute game was the longest in team history for 9-innings...The previous record was May 18 at New Britain when Portland and the Rock Cats played 3 hours and 51 minutes...Zach Daeges has reached base safely in 29 straight games...Tony Granadillo has raised his average 59 points in the last eight games.
