
Rock Cats defeat first-place Thunder

New Britain, CT - Jay Rainville out-dueled Trenton's Alfredo Aceves and Dustin Martin provided the run support as the Rock Cats defeated the first-place Thunder, 2-1 on Friday night.
Trenton struck first in the second with three singles in the inning. Joseph Muich's base hit to left field knocked in Jose Tabata for a 1-0 Thunder lead. The Rock Cats answered back in the bottom of the fourth. Brock Peterson delivered a one-out double and David Winfree reached on a single. Both runners came around to score on a triple by Martin to put the Rock Cats ahead, 2-1.
Rainville (5-5, 6.02) limited the Thunder to one run on six hits through 6 1/3 innings. Zach Ward tossed 1 2/3 shutout innings in relief, allowing just two hits. Ben Julianel fired a perfect ninth to pick up his tenth save.
Aceves (1-1, 0.78) turned in another impressive start for the Thunder. He was struck for nine hits, but walked none and struck out five.
Brock Peterson and Winfree both had three hits apiece for the Rock Cats. Peterson finished with two doubles.
