Erie SeaWolves News Release

After a long rain delay, Erie starting pitcher Tommy Collier was roughed up while the SeaWolves' bats were silent as Akron won the opening game of the series 7-1 in front of 3,624 fans at Canal Park.

Heavy rain caused the start of the game to be delayed 2 hours, 36 minutes before getting started on Monday. After two scoreless innings, Akron (45-32) jumped on Collier with a five-run third inning. Tyler Naquin and Francisco Lindor each had an RBI single before former Major League All-Star Bryan LaHair crushed a three-run double.

Lindor added a solo home run in the fifth inning, his sixth of the season, before Ollie Linton ripped an RBI single in the sixth to give the RubberDucks a 7-0 lead. Collier allowed six earned runs on eight hits to drop to 2-6, while the SeaWolves' bullpen tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

Erie, which dropped to a season-worst 12 games below .500 at 31-43, finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning as Devon Travis led off with a double before Corey Jones hit a two-out single to bring him in. Jason Krizan and Jones each had two of the SeaWolves' six hits.
