Rodriguez Quiets Thunder

Bowie, Md. - Baysox (40-36) starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez pitched seven one-run innings to lead the team to a 6-3 win over the Trenton Thunder (36-42) Tuesday evening. Rodriguez surrendered a solo home run in the top of the first inning and then shut down the Thunder offense for the next six innings, striking out four batters and allowing six total hits.

The Baysox have now won their first five games of the season against Trenton and have won three straight at home.

Gary Sanchez gave the Thunder an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left-center field in the top of the first inning against Rodriguez.

The Baysox came back to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning against Trenton starter Dan Camarena, who was making his Double-A debut. Nolan Reimold hit a lead off single to center field and Christian Walker followed with a double to left field. Chris Marrero brought Reimold home with a ground out to shortstop and Michael Ohlman followed with a double to left field that plated Walker and gave the Baysox a 2-1 lead.

Bowie kept the runs coming in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ronald Bermudez hit a lead off double to left field and moved to third base after a Reimold one-out single to left field. Walker brought Bermudez home with a sacrifice fly and Marrero followed with a single to center field that moved Reimold to third base where he scored on a David Adams single to left field to give the Baysox a 4-1 lead. Trenton reliever Tyler Webb replaced Camarena on the mound to finish the inning

The Baysox tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Garabez Rosa hit a lead off home run to center field and Johnny Ruettiger was then hit by a pitch. Romero drew a one-out walk and Walker then hit a two-out single to right field that plated Ruettiger and gave Bowie a 6-1 lead.

Trenton rallied in the top of the ninth inning against Baysox reliever Jake Pettit. Tyler Austin drew a one-out walk and Rob Segedin followed with a double to right field. Zach Wilson then walked to load the bases and closer Oliver Drake then replaced Pettit on the mound. Ali Castillo singled to left field to bring home two runs, but Drake was then able to get out of the jam and preserve the Baysox 6-3 win.

Reliever Jason Gurka pitched a perfect eighth inning for the Baysox, striking out two batters. Pettit pitched one-third of an inning and allowed two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out one. Drake earned his league-leading 17th save of the season, recording the final two outs and allowing one hit while striking out one batter.

Camarena took the loss for Trenton, throwing four and two-thirds innings and allowing four runs on 11 hits while walking one and striking out one.

LHP Anthony Vasquez (1-5, 5.02) takes the mound for the Baysox Wednesday as the team plays the final game in a three game home series with the Trenton Thunder.

The Baysox are home for a six game homestand that concludes Wednesday, June 23 with a game a 6:35 p.m. The team departs for a five game, four day roadtrip to Richmond Thursday and returns home Monday, June 31 for four games against Altoona.
