Wolves Can't Recover from First Quarter Woes, Fall to Vipers on the Road

Edinburg, Texas - The Iowa Wolves (6-6) gave up 48 first quarter points to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (3-11) Tuesday evening, an insurmountable lead that ended in a 142-128 loss at the Bert Ogden Arena.

After the first quarter, Iowa went on to outscore Rio Grande Valley 107-94 the remaining three periods of play.

Minnesota Timberwolves assignee Jaylen Nowell finished with his fourth straight 20-plus point game and first NBA G League double-double, collecting a game-high 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting and team-high 11 rebounds in the loss.

The former University of Washington standout also knocked down a team-high five three-pointers.

Two-way guard Kelan Martin just missed out on a new season-high, adding 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting, seven rebounds and three assists.

Defensively Iowa allowed Rio Grande Valley to shoot 53-of-98 (54.1%) from the field and 20-of-44 (45.5%) from deep.

Iowa led for the first 2:30 minutes of the game before giving up a lead they would never take back.

Two-way guard Chris Clemons and Houston Rockets assignee Isaiah Hartenstein each tallied a team-high 24 points in the Vipers win. Hartenstein, a former 2017 NBA second round draft pick, also finished with a team-high 15 rebounds and eight assists for Rio Grande Valley.

Iowa returns home for a three-game homestand on Friday night, beginning with a matchup against the Maine Red Claws at 7:00 p.m.
