Texas Legends News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - The Texas Legends (8-5) finished strong to fend off the Northern Arizona Suns (2-10) 123-114 Tuesday night on the road.
The two exchanged leads three times early but Texas took control and forged a nine-point gap with 4:30 left in the first. The Suns chipped away quickly but were unable to recover as Texas took a 27-25 edge into the second. Aaron Epps hit a three to put the Suns back on top minutes into the second, and then answered a Josh Reaves layup with a layup of his own to keep the lead. Texas used back-to-back triples from Dakota Mathias to force the fifth lead change and went into halftime up 65-59.
The Legends held their lead through the second half, but the Suns stayed close. With 5:13 remaining on the clock, the visitors held the largest lead of the night (+15), but Northern Arizona responded with a 12-3 run to make it a six-point game with a minute to play. Antonius Cleveland took a perfect trip to the free throw line to keep Texas comfortable and Nate Mason added a final steal and score to seal the victory.
Mathias led all scorers with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists while Reaves and Moses Brown finished with 20 points each. Reaves loaded the line with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and a block, while Brown grabbed the Legends' only double-double adding a game-high 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal. Mason led all with 11 assists on top of 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Trahson Burrell came off the bench for 15 points, 9 rebounds and Aric Holman rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Three Suns players finished with 22 points led by Epps in the team's only double-double with 10 rebounds. Ahmed Hill added 5 rebounds and Jared Harper dished out 8 assists. Anthony Lawrence II finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists while Jalen Lecque joined him off the bench for 13 points, 3 assists.
