EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (6-8) nearly erased a 16-point fourth quarter deficit but fell short in a 128-124 loss to the South Bay Lakers (7-5) Tuesday night at the UCLA Health Training Center.
After falling behind 101-85 early in the fourth quarter, Santa Cruz rallied back to cut the deficit to two points three times in the final two minutes. However, Andre Ingram's two free throws with 1.3 seconds left sealed the victory for South Bay.
Jeremy Pargo set a new NBA G League career high with 37 points on 6-10 from three-point range. Devyn Marble added 20 points and six rebounds in 29 minutes of action, while Andrew Harrison scored 21 points off the bench (3-6 3FG) and Juan Toscano-Anderson notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Alen Smailagic, on assignment from Golden State, added 11 points in 22 minutes off the bench.
The Warriors led 33-31 after the first quarter and hit 7-of-12 from deep in the first frame after connecting on just 6-of-37 three-point attempts Sunday against Windy City. The Warriors fell behind 66-56 at the half and trailed 98-83 entering the fourth after a four-point play by Marcus Allen ended the third quarter.
Gary Payton II had 30 points and 10 assists to lead South Bay, while Devontae Cacok tallied a new season high 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds in just 22 minutes. The Lakers extended their home winning streak to five games.
The Warriors will return to Kaiser Permanente Arena on December 13 for a 7:00 p.m. tip against the Agua Caliente Clippers for Star Wars night. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Kevon Looney Stormtrooper bobblehead.
