March 25, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, WA - Dustin Wolf tied a franchise record with his third consecutive shutout, the 23rd of his career, and Ben Hemmerling scored his first career WHL goal in a 3-0 victory for the Everett Silvertips over the Tri-City Americans on Wednesday in downtown Everett in WHL action.
Wolf became the second goalie in Silvertips history to record three shutouts in a row, moving to 7:01 of Carter Hart's franchise record for longest shutout streak. The Silvertips also earned their first 3-0 start to the season since 2016-17, aided by a pair of additional goals from Jacob Wright and Cole Fonstad.
Wright was credited with his second goal of the season at 10:17 of the first period on a major power play when he went to the net, fired a shot off traffic, and watched the puck carom in off an Americans defenseman for a 1-0 lead. The Silvertips outshot Tri-City 7-5, and were buoyed by Wolf's 13 saves in the second period.
From there, Hemmerling helped tack on for a 2-0 lead when he jumped out of the penalty box for a two-on-one break, looked for Gage Goncalves at the front of the net, and watched his attempted pass sail through Talyn Boyko's five hole for his first career goal.
Cole Fonstad's first of the season extended the lead to 3-0 with 4:38 left in the second period when he converted Gage Goncalves' feed, wide open at the right post.
Wolf continued to suffocate Tri-City with an array of impressive saves in the third period when the Silvertips were outshot, 12-5.
