Broncos Drop Heartbreaker in Overtime to Saskatoon

March 25, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Swift Current Broncos News Release

Before the period was up, Josh Davies got a breakaway and slid the puck through the five hole of Maier to give the Broncos a 3-2 lead through 20 minutes.

In the second, and on the power play, Tristen Robins ripped a wrist shot past Poulter's blocker just nine seconds into a man advantage to tie the game at three.

Nearly five minutes later Davies scored his second of the game, firing a wrist shot past Maier on the power play to restore the Broncos lead, and put them ahead 4-3 through 40 minutes.

With eight minutes to go in the third, Josh Filmon recorded his first WHL goal off a faceoff in the Saskatoon zone, beating Maier on the glove side to give the Broncos a 5-3 lead.

The Blades then began their comeback, first with Blake Stevenson coming out from behind the Broncos net and lifting a shot over the blocker of Poulter to make it 5-4 with 3:30 remaining.

With Maier on the bench for the extra attacker, Aidan De La Gorgendiere's wrist shot from the blue line floated through traffic in front and beat a screened Poulter to tie the game with 43 seconds left, sending it to overtime.

Just 30 seconds into the extra frame, Robins took a stretch pass while running interference on Mathew Ward and scored on the ensuing breakaway to win the game for the Blades.

The Broncos are next in action Friday night against the Winnipeg ICE.
