HARTFORD, March 3, 2009: The American Hockey League today named Hartford Wolf Pack netminder Matt Zaba the Reebok X-Pulse/AHL Goaltender of the Month for the month of February. In 11 February appearances, Zaba went 8-2-0, with a 2.28 goals-against average and a 92.8% save percentage.
Zaba, a product of Colorado College who signed as a free agent with the parent New York Rangers in August of 2007, has been in net for all six games of the Wolf Pack's current, season-high, six-game winning streak. Zaba started the last seven games of the month for the Pack, losing only a 1-0 home decision to Bridgeport on February 18, in which he turned in a First-Star performance with 31 saves. Zaba allowed a total of only 11 goals on 226 shots in those seven consecutive starts, for a GAA of 1.35 and a save percentage of 95.1.
For the season, Zaba has compiled a record of 17-8-0, with a 2.46 goals-against average, a 91.7% save percentage and one shutout. That 2.46 GAA mark ranks him 11th in the AHL.
