Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Syracuse, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Syracuse Crunch 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday night. Team Captain Kyle Chipchura returned to the Bulldogs' line-up and set up Ryan Russell for the overtime winning goal.
Syracuse opened the scoring at 6:02 of the opening frame. Craig MacDonald sent the puck to the front of the Hamilton net where Michael Blunden was stationed. Blunden banged the puck past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.
The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 while on the power play at 11:25 of the middle frame. Ben Maxwell received the puck from Yannick Weber before blasting a shot that sailed over the right shoulder of Syracuse starting goaltender Dan LaCosta. Doug Janik also earned an assist on the play, his first point as a Bulldog. The goal was the Bulldogs' first power-play marker in seven games.
Hamilton took a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 9:11 of the final frame. David Desharnais fed a pass to Sergei Kostitsyn, who ripped a shot that beat LaCosta. Weber earned an assist on the goal, his second of the night.
Trevor Frischmon tied the game 2-2 at 16:17 of the third stanza. Dan Spang hammered a shot from the side of the net that was saved by Desjardins. The goaltender was unable to control the rebound, which allowed Frischmon to grab the loose rebound and jam the puck past Desjardins.
With the game tied 2-2 the teams went to overtime, where the Bulldogs scored at 2:25 of the extra period. Chipchura stole the puck from a Crunch defender before feeding a pass to Russell, who was in front of the net. Russell one-timed a shot that beat LaCosta to win the game for Hamilton.
