March 21, 2019 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hartford Wolf Pack News Release
HARTFORD: Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Chris Drury today announced three additions to the Wolf Pack's roster.
The Wolf Pack has signed forward Nick Jones to an AHL contract; defenseman Matt Register has signed a Professional Tryout (PTO) agreement, and forward Ryan Dmowski has been inked to an Amateur Tryout (ATO) agreement.
Jones comes to the Wolf Pack from the University of North Dakota, where he has played the last two seasons. In 26 games this year, the 5-11, 189-pound Edmonton, Alberta native skated in 26 games, scoring nine goals and adding 11 assists for 20 points, while serving ten minutes in penalties. Those totals were good for second on the U. North Dakota team in both points and goals. Last season with the Fighting Hawks, Jones, 22, had 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points, along with 16 PIM, in 34 games, leading the team in goals and finishing second in points.
Prior to his time at U. North Dakota, Jones spent two seasons with the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League. He totaled 46 goals and 79 assists for 125 points, as well as 65 penalty minutes, in 100 BCHL contests, and helped lead the Vees to the 2016-17 BCHL championship. Before that, Jones played in 29 games, over two seasons (2014-15 and 2015-16), at Ohio State University, registering one goal and five assists for six points, with six PIM.
Register is a 6-2, 225-pound eighth-year pro, a three-time ECHL Defenseman of the Year and three-time ECHL champion. This year with the Toledo Storm, the 29-year-old Register is tied for the ECHL lead in assists among defensemen, and stands second among rearguards in points, with 12 goals and 34 assists for 46 points, along with 32 penalty minutes. Those totals put him third on the Toledo club in assists and fourth in points.
In 2017-18, the Calgary, Alberta-born Register won his third consecutive Kelly Cup title, his second straight with the Colorado Eagles and his second consecutive ECHL Defenseman of the Year honor. With 17-48-65 in 72 games, he led ECHL blueliners in points for a second straight year and also topped defensemen in assists. Register also led the league in postseason assists (17), and tied for fourth in points (20), during the Eagles' run to the title. He was also ECHL Defenseman of the Year in 2016-17 (18-46-64 in 72 GP), and was named the league's playoff MVP (8-16-24 in 20 GP) for the Kelly Cup-winning Eagles. Register also was a Kelly Cup champ in 2015-16 with the Allen Americans, and was ECHL Defenseman of the Year in 2013-14 as a member of the Ontario Reign.
Register, whose only previous AHL experience was six games with the Chicago Wolves in 2014-15 (four assists, two penalty minutes), has suited up for 403 career ECHL contests with Storm, Eagles, Americans, Reign and the Atlanta Gladiators, amassing 86 goals and 233 assists for 319 points, plus 304 penalty minutes. He also has 73 games of experience in the Central Hockey League, with the Americans, the Tulsa Oilers and the Arizona Sundogs, totaling three goals and 17 assists for 20 points, along with 28 PIM. Prior to turning pro, Register spent three seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Bonnyville Pontiacs and earned AJHL Most Outstanding Defenseman honors in 2009-10, with 16-45-61 in 58 games.
Dmowski, a 22-year-old native of East Lyme, CT, just finished a four-year Hockey East career at U. Mass-Lowell. In 37 games this year with the River Hawks, the 6-1, 205-pound Dmowski tallied a team-leading 14 goals, along with nine assists for 23 points, good for second on the team, plus 16 penalty minutes. In 132 career contests with U. Mass-Lowell, he notched 37 goals and 30 assists for 67 points, along with 54 PIM.
Prior to his college career, and one year in the USHL with the Des Moines Buccaneers, Dmowski played three seasons (2011-12 through 2013-14) of prep school hockey at The Gunnery in Washington, CT.
