Iowa Wolves News Release
BISMARCK, ND, Jan. 14, 2010 - The Dakota Wizards improved their home record to 8-1 on the season with a 139-129 victory over the Iowa Energy Thursday night in Bismarck. The Wizards shot 60.9% from the field on the game compared to Iowa's 49.5%.
Dakota controlled most of the game, leading by as many as 13 points in the 2nd half. Iowa battled back in the final quarter, as reserve wing players Othyus Jeffers and Sean Barnette combined for 26 of the Energy's 34 points in the quarter.
Down by two points with only :08 seconds left, the Energy drew up a play for Jeffers, who delivered with a layup to send the game into overtime.
The Wizards appeared to be in control of the overtime session, as they led by eight points with 1:44 left in the game. Energy guard Jeff Trepagnier had other ideas as he erupted for seven points in a seven second stretch that moved Iowa to within one point. Dakota's David Bell, who torched the Energy in the 2009 D-League playoffs, responded by scoring the next four points to put the game away for the Wizards.
Iowa was led by Jeffers and center Earl Barron who scored 24 points each. Barnette finished with a career high 23 points in the loss. The Energy fall to 16-5 on the year.
Dakota, who improved to 10-9 on the season with the win, were led by Maurice Baker's 32 points. Bell finished with 29 points in the game.
The Energy and Wizards meet again Friday night in North Dakota at 7pm.
Iowa returns home Sunday for a 4pm game with Albuquerque. Tickets for that game, as well as the remainder of Iowa's home schedule are available at www.dahlstickets.com, the Wells Fargo Arena box office, or by calling 515-564-8550.
