Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY (7/11/14)- The Hudson Valley Renegades won their ninth straight home game after defeating the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 6-4 on Friday evening. The victory completed a three game sweep of the Scrappers, as Hudson Valley improves to 21-7 overall and 13-2 at Dutchess Stadium.

The Renegades jumped out early, as Braxton Lee led off the first inning with a walk, and then advanced to second on a Coty Blanchard single. Jace Conrad tripled to bring home both Blanchard and Lee, giving the Renegades a 2-0 lead. Conrad would then come around to score on a fielding error, giving his team a three-run lead. Zach Marberry drove in Casey Gillaspie with a line-drive single to center-field, giving Hudson Valley their fourth run of the inning.

On the mound Renegades' starter Chris Pike went the first 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on only three hits. Hudson Valley's bullpen tossed the final 5.1 innings, as Ryan Pennell struck out the first hitter he faced in the top of the fourth. He came in with a man on second and two outs, after Mahoning Valley scored their first two runs of the game. He'd go on to throw a scoreless top of the fifth, to earn his first win of 2014.

Hudson Valley plated two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Coty Blanchard struck out but advanced to first on a wild pitch, and then moved to third on a single by Jace Conrad. Jace would go on to steal second, which setup a Daniel Miles single to center-field, scoring Conrad and Blanchard. Conrad finished the day 2-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs.

Mike Franco came on to pitch after Pennell, throwing two innings and allowing just one run. Brian Miller earned his second save of the season, going the final two innings, en route to the Renegades league-leading 21 st win this season.

Through twenty-eight games, Hudson Valley has the best overall record in the New York-Penn League, and the best pitching staff in the league as well. Their 13-2 record at Dutchess Stadium is the best home winning percentage of all fourteen teams.
