Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY - After 10 consecutive tough losses, the Jammers finally got over the hump Friday night at Diethrick Park. Led by a consistent offensive attack (11 hits), and solid starting pitching from Marek Minarik, the Jammers beat the Tri-City ValleyCats, 8-6.

The Jammers would strike first with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Center fielder Carl Anderson would lead off the inning with a single. Second basemen Erik Lunde would then ground out, but Anderson would advance to second. Right fielder Andrew Lambo would walk, designated hitter Kevin Krause would strike out, and then Chase Simpson would come up with a huge RBI single, which would score Anderson and put the Jammers up, 1-0.

Tri City would tie the game up in the top of the third inning. Designated hitter Ricky Gingras would start the inning with a walk. Catcher Jamie Ritchie would then lace an RBI double down the left field line, which would score Gingras, and even up the game at 1.

After Tri-City tied the game up, the Jammers responded with one run in the bottom of the third, three runs in the bottom of the fourth, and two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, to open up a 7-1 lead. During that three inning span, Lambo, Catcher Deybi Garcia, Lunde, shortstop Erik Forgione, and left fielder Francisco Aponte would all collect RBIs, with the biggest hit of the outburst being Aponte's 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.

The ValleyCats would show some resiliency however, and score three runs in the top of the sixth, and two runs in the bottom of the seventh of Jamestown reliever, Andres Mendoza. Mendoza pitched well though, and just fell victim to some bad luck, and bad Jammers defense (four errors throughout the sixth and seventh inning), and all five runs he gave up would be unearned.

Tri-City would then only be trailing 7-6 heading into the bottom of the 7 th inning. But, the Jammers would tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh, after Krause connected on a 1-out triple, and Kevin Ross grounded into a force out, allowing Krause to score, and push Jamestown's lead to 8-6.

Julio Eusebio would come on to pitch the final two innings for the Jammers. He would work out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the eighth, getting Tri-City shortstop, Mott Hyde, to ground into a double play. In the top of the ninth, Eusebio would give up a single to ValleyCat left fielder, Derek Fisher, but would bare down and collect his first save of the season.

Jammers starting pitcher, Marek Minarik, threw extremely well when his team needed him. He would throw five innings, while only giving up one run on two hits, and he also struck out two. He lowered his ERA to 3.38 on the season, and picked up his first win of the year.

Anderson, and Ross collected multiple hits for the Jammer offense, leading their 11-hit attack.

Looking to build on tonight's win, the Jamestown Jammers will begin a three game series with the Vermont Lake Monsters Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. Right-handed pitcher Tyler Eppler will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by left-handed pitcher Jerad Grundy of the Lake Monsters. Don't forget to bring your dog down to the ballpark for "Bark in the Park" presented by Nestle Purina One. Many different prizes will be given away, and their will also be a "best looking dog" contest, and a doggie parade.
