Doubledays Sweep the Tigers

Norwich, CT "" The Auburn Doubledays (13-15) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (12-16) by a score of 4-0 Friday night at Dodd Stadium. The Doubledays pitching continued to overpower the Tigers into the third game of the series as Auburn swept the three-game series with Connecticut. In his third start of the season, RHP James Bourque (1-0) picked up his first win as he pitched five scoreless innings while giving up four hits and struck out one batter.

The Doubledays used two relievers in the game that combined for four shutout innings while giving up one hit. LHP Connor Bach (H, 1) pitched three shutout innings while not giving up a hit. RHP Phillips Valdez pitched a scoreless ninth inning and struck out Tigers 3B Joey Pankake (0-4) to end the game. The bullpen for the Doubledays in the three-game series allowed one run in 12 innings. CF Dale Carey (1-4) hit a second inning solo homerun that put the Doubledays in front 2-0. It was Carey's second homerun of the series and third RBI.

Tigers SS Garrett Mattlage (2-4) put a 0-for-5 night at the plate Thursday night to bed with a two-hit performance on Friday. That was about all the production the Tigers got in the game as they were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left five on base. The Doubledays pitching overpowered the Tigers offense in the three-game series. In the series the Tigers managed to score just two runs in 27 innings against Auburn and were 2-for-19 with runners in scoring position for the series.

The Tigers and Brooklyn Cyclones begin a three-game series tomorrow night at Dodd Stadium. Tigers RHP Spencer Turnbull (0-1, 5.79) is slated to face Cyclones RHP Octavio Acosta (2-1, 1.96).
