Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Welcome Home IronBirds
For the third night in a row the Aberdeen IronBirds came away victorious. The IronBirds scored four runs in last night's contest behind a strong pitching staff and timely hitting. LHP Bennett Parry started on the mound for the IronBirds and would go five innings giving up just one hit and four walks, striking out six. Parry picked up his second win of the season. Stefan Crichton threw in the sixth inning and allowed just one hit while striking out one. Finally, Dariel Delgado came in to close the game for the IronBirds. The RHP threw three complete innings and picked up the save. He did not allow a base runner and struck out the side in the ninth. Despite only having four hits in last night's game, the IronBirds' offense struck when it mattered most. The IronBirds put up a run in the fourth inning, two in the seventh and one in the eighth. Jay Gonzalez, Federico Castagnini, Austin Anderson and Alex Murphy each had a hit in last night's game.
Hitting Streak Stays Alive
Federico Castagnini extended his hitting streak to seven games Thursday night as he was 1-3 with an RBI. Castagnini picked up his only hit of the game in the sixth inning when he hit a sharp ground ball that went under the glove of Muckdogs short stop Javier Lopez. Castagnini nearly hit a home run to left center field in the eighth inning but Muckdogs left fielder Kevin Grove caught the ball at the wall. Jay Gonzalez would come in to score on the play.
Looking For a Sweep
Tonight the IronBirds' will look to pick up their first sweep of the 2014 season. Following last night's game, the IronBirds have now won three consecutive series to open up July.
On the Mound Tonight
RHP Patrick Connaughton will take the mound for the IronBirds' tonight. Counnaughton has appeared in two game so far this season pitching just three innings but has not allowed a hit or run in both of those appearances. This will be Connaughton's third start of the season. For the Muckdogs, it will be LHP Chris Sadberry. His only appearance of the season came back on July 5th where he threw two complete innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three.
