Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MO - Patrick Wisdom's two-run home run in the ninth inning Sunday night sent Springfield to a 7-5 come-from-behind victory before 4,250 fans at Hammons Field.
Following an hour-and-30-minute rain delay, the Hooks jumped on lefty Kyle Hald for five runs in the first. Infield singles by Teoscar Hernandez and Brett Phillips began the frame. Following a walk to Jon Kemmer, Colin Moran was hit by a pitch to put Corpus Christi (5-5, 53-27) on the board.
With two away, Conrad Gregor belted a 1-1 pitch over the fence in right field for the Hooks' second grand slam of the season.
The Cardinals (5-5, 34-46) cut into the five-run deficit in the home half. Rehabbing Astro Scott Feldman got into trouble by issuing a pair of two-out walks. Derek Gibson capitalized via a double to the alley in left field, pulling Springfield to within three.
Feldman, recovering from right knee surgery, allowed an unearned run in the second before finishing his night with a scoreless third. He threw 38 of 62 pitches for strikes.
Chris Devenski entered in the fourth and was greeted by a lead-off home run from David Washington. Following a two-out walk, singles by Bruce Caldwell and Jonathan Rodriguez tied the game at 5.
Devenski responded by retiring 12 of the final 14 men he faced.
Hald held the Hooks to four singles from the second through the seventh. The Springfield southpaw fanned seven and walked one.
Phillips kick-started the eighth with a double, but back-to-back Ryan Sherriff strikeouts neutralized the threat.
Reymin Guduan, making his Double-A debut, issued a lead-off free pass to Charlie Tilson in the ninth, setting the stage for Wisdom's heroics.
Kyle Westwood (5-3, 4.40) is slated to pitch for Corpus Christi on Monday. Springfield turns to Corey Baker (2-3, 4.25). First pitch 7:10.
