Late Rally Falls Short as Naturals Edged by Midland, 5-4
July 6, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
MIDLAND, Texas. - It took a little while, but the offense made a late rally in the top of the ninth inning against a very stout Midland bullpen putting up three runs only to fall a tally short in the 5-4 loss on Monday night at Security Bank Ballpark.
Trailing 5-1 headed to the ninth inning, the rally started out with Bubba Starling extending his hitting streak to eight games with a single to right field. His base hit started a trend that eventually loaded the bases for Terrance Gore who delivered an RBI single up the middle to make it a 5-2 game.
After a pair of RBI fielder choices by pinch-hitter Parker Morin and left fielder Lane Adams made it 5-4, newly added infielder Ramon Torres - who came on to play shortstop for Raul Mondesi in the bottom of the eighth - put together a nine-pitch at-bat against closer Ryan Dull to end the game. Dull has given up one earned run in 37.2 innings of work this season. The Naturals sent a total of seven men to bat in the top of the ninth inning.
Northwest Arkansas jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off starter Jonathan Joseph (5-3, 2.79) after Jorge Bonifacio belted his league-tying 15th home run of the season.
Left-hander Jonathan Dziedzic (4-5, 4.07) is hung with the loss working 5.0 innings allowing five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts allowing two home runs.
Right-hander Kyle Zimmer worked 2.0 shutout innings out of the bullpen tonight facing seven hitters and fanning four with a pick-off in the seventh inning.
Northwest Arkansas (44-36/4-7) will look to finish the current six-game road trip with a .500 record with game three slated for Tuesday, July 7 at Security Bank Ballpark.
Right-hander Miguel Almonte (4-3, 4.02) takes the hill for the Naturals against right-hander Jake Sanchez (6-5, 4.70) for the RockHounds.
