The Story:

Their first trip north of the border in two seasons turned out to be a night to forget for Portland, as the Blazers rode a Logan Stankoven hat-trick and a dominant puck-possession game to a 7-1 win in Kamloops.

Stankoven opened the scoring on the power play early in the first period, but the Hawks responded well behind Gabe Klassen's bomb from the blue line to tie things up.

Kamloops was not to be denied, however, and promptly posted six straight goals in the first and second periods. Reese Belton grabbed the game-winning goal just under 90 seconds after Klassen's goal, and Stankoven added a second of his own just over a minute after that. Pillar tallied with 3:32 left in the opening frame, and the Blazers were cruising.

Stankoven and Pillar each added goals in the second period, before Matthew Seminoff potted his fifth of the year to cap things off midway through the frame.

For the Winterhawks, the good news comes in the form of two opportunities to get this road trip going back in the right direction with games in Kelowna and Vancouver.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:

"Every time you play you want to try to improve so we've got to take some lessons from this game, we don't want to disregard it. We want to get ready for Kelowna and Vancouver, that's a tough back-to-back. I've been happy up until this point with how we've played defensively."

Winterhawks Head Coach Mike Johnston
