November 4, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Two power play goals for Regina in the second period sunk the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday night as they lost 4-3 to the Pats at the Brandt Centre.
Martin Rysavy and Denton Mateychuk had a goal and two points each in the loss, while Jagger Firkus also found the back of the net for Moose Jaw.
Zack Smith and Zack Stringer led the way for the Pats with a goal and two points each.
Rysavy opened the scoring for Moose Jaw with a highlight reel goal, his third of the season, 8:06 into the first period.
The Pats were able to answer late in the frame when Braxton Whitehead finished off on an odd-man rush just after a power play ended for Moose Jaw.
Regina controlled the opening minutes of the second period and Smith put the Pats in front with a power play goal 5:51 into the frame.
The Warriors were able to respond quickly as Firkus snapped in his third of the season only seven seconds later to tie the game up at 2-2.
Back on the power play, just past the midway point of the period, Stringer buried a rebound in front to restore the one-goal lead for Regina.
The Pats extended that lead just four minutes later when Luke Bateman beat Warriors goalie Carl Tetachuk with a point shot to make it 4-2.
Moose Jaw cut the lead back down to one with just over four minutes to play in the period as Denton Mateychuk let a seeing-eye point shot go that found its way in for his fourth of the season.
Regina was able to outshoot Moose Jaw, 14-7, in the third period and hold onto the one-goal lead to take the two points.
The Pats outshot the Warriors, 45-36, overall in the game as Tetatchuk turned away 41 shots in the loss.
Moose Jaw was 0-for-3 on the power play and surrendered two goals on four shorthanded chances.
The Warriors will load up the bus again on Thursday as they look to rebound on a two-goal road trip to the Central Division. Moose Jaw will head into Lethbridge to take on the Hurricanes on Friday night and then they square off with the Tigers in Medicine Hat on Saturday.
