Portland Winterhawks News Release
With a 5-3 win over the Tri-City Americans Wednesday, the Portland Winterhawks have clinched their first playoff berth since the 2005-06 season, ending a three-year postseason drought.
Fans can purchase playoff tickets beginning tomorrow at 9 a.m. by calling the Winterhawks' ticket office at 503-236-HAWK.
"Our goal from Day One this season was to make the playoffs. This was an important step for our franchise to take this season," said Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. "This is an exciting time for the team and our fans. With a playoff spot assured, we're now turning our attention to securing home ice advantage."
The Winterhawks, 35-20-2-1, have 14 regular season games remaining. With 35 wins this season, they're on pace to finish with their most wins since the 1997-98 team that won 53 games en route to winning the Memorial Cup. Since that season, the most wins the team had registered was 37 in the 2000-01 season.
Their final regular season game is Saturday, March 13, and the WHL Playoffs are scheduled to begin on Friday, March 19.
