Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - For the second time in less than six months, the Canadian Hockey League has delivered some great news to western Manitoba hockey fans hoping for the opportunity to purchase tickets to the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
The CHL has announced that 150 Memorial Cup Ticket Packages have been turned back to the Local Host Organizing Committee in an effort to meet local demand.
Up until this week, the CHL was holding 1,450 tickets for sponsors, the three major junior leagues, the National Hockey league and CHL teams. The balance of the tickets - 3,652 Memorial Cup packages - had been sold by the Host Organizing Committee.
"The Canadian Hockey League recognizes the local demand for tickets to the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup," says CHL President and Ontario Hockey League Commissioner David Branch, "and as a result of the overwhelming support shown by western Manitoba hockey fans, we're excited to release an additional 150 ticket packages for what should be a tremendous event for the province of Manitoba."
The 150 Ticket packages are available for $399 plus GST and can be purchased at the Brandon Wheat Kings' office, beginning Tuesday, February 16th at 9 a.m.
For the first time in history, the Wheat Kings have earned the right to play host to the MasterCard Memorial Cup. This will also mark the first time that Manitoba has played host to the 4-team National Championship and it comes during the province's 140th Anniversary Celebrations.
2010 will mark the Wheat Kings' fifth Memorial Cup appearance, having competed for the title in 1949, 1979, 1995 and '96.
In other Wheat Kings' news, Brandon will close out a mini 2-game homestand Friday night at Westman Place against the visiting Swift Current Broncos. Entering weekend play, the Wheat Kings and Saskatoon Blades share top spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference.
