Spokane Chiefs News Release

With his sixth career four point night, Mitch Wahl has moved into the rarified air in Chiefs history. With 166 career assists, only Ray Whitney (207) and Pat Falloon (194) have more career helpers than the Seal Beach, California native. Wahl is tied with Travis Green for third all-time on the career assist list and he sits in ninth place with 259 career points, just 11 points out of seventh place all-time.

Wahl-s last 14 games, nine goals and 24 points, have also placed him in the league-s top 10 in scoring at nine. He is also just two points off his career high of 73 points he set two seasons ago as a 17-year-old, the year he helped the Chiefs win the Memorial Cup. Last year Wahl set a career high with 35 goals and finished the season with 67 points.

In October, he signed a three-year-entry level contract with the Calgary Flames. Wahl was a second-round pick in the 2008 Draft and registered 32 goals and 67 points last season with Spokane, both second on the team. The 19-year-old is back in a Chiefs- sweater for his fourth season. The 19-year-old led the Chiefs last year with a +42. In 2007-08, he led the club with 53 assists and finished second on the team in scoring with 73 points. Wahl also finished tied for fifth in the WHL with a +33.

SPOKANE TRAVELS TO EVERETT FRIDAY NIGHT

The magic number for the Spokane Chiefs to clinch a spot in the post-season is three points. If the Chiefs win and if the Seattle Thunderbirds, the ninth place team in the Western Conference, lose then two points come off the number.

Spokane will have two chances to chop the number down this weekend with a road trip to Everett, their third meeting in the last five games, on Friday night and a home game against Tri-City on Saturday.

Friday night-s game at Everett can be seen live at 7:30 on FSN Northwest (Comcast channel 32). Mike Boyle will also go on the air at 7:00 on 1510 KGA with Comcast Hockey Tonight.

Currently, Tri-City, Portland and Everett have clinched playoff spots with Vancouver holding a magic number of one point.

The Chiefs will host Everett on Monday afternoon at 3:00 to finish a stretch of four out of seven games against each other.

Spokane trails Everett and Portland by five points each for third place in the Western Conference. The Chiefs hold two games in hand with Portland and have played the same amount of games, 56, as the Silvertips.

SPOKANE-TRI-CITY ON SWX SATURDAY NIGHT

SATURDAY CAN ALSO BE HEARD ON 105.7 THE PEAK

The Spokane Chiefs home game on Saturday night against the Tri-City Americans can be seen live on SWX, Comcast channel 115, beginning at 7:00. The game will be their eighth meeting of the year and the fourth match-up in the Spokane Arena.

Mike Boyle will also go on the air on 105.7 the Peak at 6:30 with Comcast HockeyTonight.

Spokane is 4-3 on the season, 2-1 in the Spokane Arena, with wins in the last two games of the series. Mitch Wahl, Tyler Johnson and Kyle Beach had goals in Spokane-s 3-2 win on January 23rd at Tri-City. James Reid stopped 32 shots as Spokane was 0-2 on the power play and 5-6 on the penalty kill in their last meeting of the season.

In seven games each team has scored 21 goals and registered 236 shots. The team that scores first is 6-1 in the series and the team that is leading after the second period is 6-0. The score has been tied after two periods once. In seven games, Koper has four goals and eight points while Stefan Ulmer has seven assists. Tyler Johnson has four goals and six points. Last year, the home team won nine of the 12 match-ups. Spokane won the season series 7-4-0-1 with a 5-1 record at home. In its 21st year of existence the Chiefs lead the series 128-113-1-5 with 13 ties.
