Vancouver Giants News Release

The Vancouver Giants dropped a 5-2 decision at the hands of the Portland Winterhawks on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Jackson Houck and Dalton Sward scored for Vancouver in the losing cause.

Dominic Turgeon scored the lone goal of the first period to put the Winterhawks ahead when he banked a puck past Giants goalie Payton Lee from behind the Vancouver net to make it 1-0.

Houck equalized for Vancouver before the midway mark of the second period, wiring a hard wrist shot past Winterhawks net minder Adin Hill from the right circle. Oliver Bjorkstrand restored Portland's lead a few minutes later, scoring quickly after a turnover at the Vancouver blue line, but Sward pulled the Giants back onto level footing in the final minute of the stanza, netting his 11th of the year.

The Winterhawks scored three times in the third period clinch the victory. Keegan Iverson tallied his 9th of the year at 3:52 before Skyler McKenzie scored less than a minute later. Layne Viveiros found the net as well.

Vancouver will be back on home ice at the Pacific Coliseum tomorrow night when the Kamloops Blazers come to town. Puck drop will be at 7:00pm. For tickets, visit VancouverGiants.com or call 604-4-GIANTS (604-444-2687).
