Hitmen win over Americans

Kennewick, WA - The Calgary Hitmen fired a season-high 55 shots on goal in a 7-2 win over the Tri-City Americans Saturday night at the Toyota Center.

Seven different Hitmen scored goals including Jake Virtanen and Jake Bean who had a goal and two assists each.

Elliott Peterson, Adam Tambellini, Pavel Karnaukhov, Connor Rankin and Beck Malenstyn also netted markers for the Hitmen who move into a tie for first place in the WHL's Central Division with the Medicine Hat Tigers. Both teams have 13 games remaining in their regular season schedule.

Travis Sanheim led all Hitmen with three assists while Mack Shields made 16 saves to record the victory.

Calgary, 36-18-1-4 and winners of four in a row and 13 of their last 14 games, returns to action Tuesday night in Kent against the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Their franchise record long 11 game road trip will also take the Hitmen to Portland, Everett, Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George, Edmonton, Red Deer and Lethbridge before their next home game on Sunday, March 15th against the visiting Hurricanes. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
