Lee Blanks Blazers

Vancouver Giants News Release

Payton Lee stopped all 33 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season as the Vancouver Giants blanked the visiting Kamloops Blazers 1-0 on Saturday night at the Pacific Coliseum. Dakota Odgers had the only goal in the hockey game as the G-Men moved five points up on the Blazers while remaining three points ahead of the Prince George Cougars for third in the BC Division.

Neither team scored in the opening frame, although Vancouver had a couple of glorious scoring chances as Mason Geertsen's shot from the point was stopped by Blazer goaltender Connor Ingram before he also denied Jakob Stukel and Thomas Foster on subsequent rebound chances.

Odgers put the Giants on the board at 4:44 of the middle frame, moments after Thomas Foster had laid a bruising body check on Kamloops forward Cole Ully. Vancouver defenseman Dmitry Osipov fired a puck wide of the net from the blue line, and the puck bounced off the end boards and back in front of the goal where Odgers chipped it past Ingram. Foster dropped the gloves with Ully a few minutes later in a spirited tilt.

The Blazers ramped up the pressure in the third period in an attempt to tie the game, but Lee was phenomenal in the Vancouver net, making a number of key saves including a tremendous glove hand stop on Marc McNulty while he was lying on his back in the crease. Kamloops pulled the goaltender in the late stages, but the Giants held the Blazers off the board to pick up the win.

The Giants will be back in action on Friday when they host the Kelowna Rockets at the Rink on Renfrew. Face-off is set for 7:30pm. For tickets, visit VancouverGiants.com or call 604-4-GIANTS (604-444-2687).
