WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (JUNE 10, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash squandered a five-run lead, as the Lynchburg Hillcats rallied to take the series opener 10-9 at BB&T Ballpark on Monday night.

With the game tied at eight entering the seventh inning, Lynchburg (33-29) would take their first lead of the night. Matt Lipka singled with one out against reliever Jeremy Erben (2-1), and David Rohm brought Lipka home with a triple for his fourth RBI of the night. Rohm then came around one batter later when Matt Weaver hit a sacrifice fly to give the Hillcats a huge insurance run.

Still trailing by two heading into the ninth, Winston-Salem (34-30) would threaten against Carolina League save leader Nate Hyatt. Martin Medina drew a one-out walk and later came around on an infield single by Jeremy Farrell. Hyatt would recover after that, though, to get the final two outs and earn his ninth save.

Like they did all weekend in their sweep of Wilmington, Winston-Salem scored the contest's first runs. After back-to-back hits to start things off in the first, Kevan Smith picked up an RBI on a groundout for the game's first tally. After Farrell singled to bring another home, Courtney Hawkins celebrated his Carolina League Player of the Week honor by blasting his 12th homer of the year to make it 4-0.

After Lynchburg responded with two in the second, Winston-Salem's offense was back at it in the home half of the second when Chris Curley blasted a two-run homer to center to restore the four-run cushion.

Starter Myles Jaye wiggled out of a bases loaded jam in the third but would be faced with the same situation again in the fourth. This time, Lynchburg would take advantage, pushing across four runs to end Jaye's evening.

Lynchburg tied the contest in the fifth against Erben. The frame started with three consecutive singles, the last of which came off the bat of Rohm to even the score at seven apiece.

Grant Buckner clubbed a solo shot in the last of the fifth to give the Dash a short-lived lead. However, Lynchburg had an answer with a solo home run of their own in the top of the sixth. This one came off the bat of Skinner, giving him is ninth of the season.

With the loss and Myrtle Beach's victory over Frederick, the Dash are now one game back of the Pelicans in the Southern Division standings with six days remaining in the first half.

The Dash and Hillcats continue their three-game series Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. Winston-Salem will turn to right-hander Chris Bassitt (5-2, 3.74 ERA), while Lynchburg has yet to announce its starting pitcher. Coverage on wsdash.com begins with the Pregame Dash at 6:45, and first pitch is scheduled for 7.
