Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys offense could not get going against all-star bound righty Nick Martinez as Frederick could only muster a Michael Ohlman solo home run in a 2-1 defeat in the series opener in Myrtle Beach. Potomac was rained out at Carolina so the Keys are 3.5 games back with seven games to play in the first half North division race.
Martinez was dominant, retiring the first 11 Keys on the night in an evening where he threw a career-long right innings for the win. The Keys never had an at-bat with a runner in scoring position in the game.
Keys CF Brenden Webb singled twice but each time was erased via a double play. In the ninth inning, RF Johnny Ruettiger singled to left field to lead off the inning but that was followed by a third double play, this time a 6-4-3 ground ball that took the wind out of the Keys sails. Frederick only left one runner on-base in the game.
The Keys got a strong start from Zach Davies (4-3) who battled through six tough innings. Using an effective change-up he racked up six strikeouts. He gave way to Miguel Chalas who showed great velocity in two scoreless innings. Chalas has not allowed a run in five innings in his first two Carolina League outings.
With time running out in the first half the Keys send their ace LHP Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill looking for a league-leading seventh win on the year. First pitch from Myrtle Beach is set for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 11th with coverage beginning 30-minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
Frederick returns Thursday, June 13th for a five-game series in four days against Potomac. Peanut Free Night kicks it all off on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks follow Friday and Saturday's games.
Tickets can be purchased for all Keys home games at 301-815-9939 during regular business hours or online at frederickkeys.com anytime.
