Winston-Salem Dash News Release
BLOUGH, RAVELO LIFT DASH TO SWEEP
The Dash wrapped up a series sweep of the Wilmington Blue Rocks with a 6-1 victory in front of 4,845 fans at BB&T Ballpark on Sunday. Winston-Salem jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings and cruised from there. Rangel Ravelo hit his first career High-A home run and drove in a season-high four runs, while starter Bryan Blough ran his personal win streak to a career high-tying three games with his sixth quality start of 2013 (7.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 H). The win propelled Winston-Salem to 9-1 against the Blue Rocks this year. The Dash have outscored Wilmington 47-18 during those 10 contests.
SIX PACK AT BB&T BALLPARK
Dating back to May 31, the Dash have won six consecutive home games, which is good for the club's longest home winning streak of the campaign. Since BB&T Ballpark opened in 2010, the Dash have strung together five-plus home victories 12 times. Winston's longest winning streak in this facility was a nine-game run from August 2-25, 2012.
MORE ON HOME DOMINANCE
During this six-game home winning streak, Winston-Salem has outscored its opposition 46-17 and hit eight home runs. The Dash are hitting .267 and averaging 5.8 runs per game at BB&T Ballpark in 2013. Winston is second to Potomac (22) in the Carolina League in home wins with 20. The Dash own full-season Minor League Baseball's best home record since BB&T Ballpark opened in 2010 (154-90, .631).
OVER THE HILLCATS
Winston-Salem has struggled against Lynchburg this season. The Hillcats, who upset the Dash in last year's Mills Cup Finals, have won six of the first eight meetings between these two teams thus far in 2013. Lynchburg took three of four from the Dash in the Triad from April 22-25 and inside City Stadium from April 29-May 2. A year ago, Lynchburg was the only team that did not lose its season series against the Dash (10-10).
ALL SQUARE
For the fourth straight day, Winston-Salem is tied with Myrtle Beach in the Southern Division standings. The Pelicans completed a weekend sweep of their own with a 6-4 win at Carolina on Sunday. The Dash have not been atop the division by themselves since April 20, when Winston-Salem swept a twin bill from Wilmington to improve to 9-6. During the first half's final week, the Dash host Lynchburg (2-6) for three before traveling to Wilmington (9-1) for four. Myrtle Beach finishes with an eight-game, seven-day homestand, featuring three versus Frederick (5-3) and five against Carolina (8-1).
BECK, HAWKINS WIN WEEKLY CL HONOR
The Dash swept the Carolina League's weekly honors as outfielder Courtney Hawkins won the circuit's Player of the Week award, while Chris Beck was named the CL's Pitcher of the Week. In eight games this week, Hawkins hit .345 (10-for-29) with four homers and 11 RBIs. His long ball total led the CL and was one shy of the minor league lead for the week, while his RBI mark was tied with Salem's Keury De La Cruz. Beck turned in the second nine-inning complete game shutout in the Dash era (2009-present) on Friday versus Wilmington (5 H, 0 BB, 7 K, 90 pitches). Beck is fifth in the CL with a 2.79 ERA.
