Winston-Salem Dash News Release
ROME, GA - The Winston-Salem Dash rallied late, but dropped game two of a six game series to the Rome Braves, 9-8, Wednesday night at AdventHealth Stadium.
Rome (47-57) took an early lead in the bottom of the first plating two runs on a pair of singles making it 2-0 and held the advantage until the third inning.
In the top of the third, Winston-Salem (47-52) struck back. Loidel Chapelli singled to lead off the frame and later stole second base to move into scoring position. Chapelli was brought home by DJ Gladney on a sacrifice fly, cutting the lead in half, 2-1. Next batter Michael Turner doubled to left and came home to score after Shawn Goosenberg singled tying the game at two.
The Braves responded in the bottom of the third though. The home side plated five runs in the frame and did not look back from there taking a 7-2 lead. Winston-Salem started to chip away in the sixth. After a walk and single put two runners on, Jacob Burke cut the deficit to three on a base knock, making it 7-4.
Rome tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth and needed it. In the top of the ninth, following a one out walk, Gladney delivered again. The right fielder blasted his 15th homer of the year to left center cutting the lead to three again.
The rally continued. Goosenberg singled with two outs and the following batter, Bryce Willits, kept the line moving with a base knock. Colby Smelley then walked loading the bases for Wes Kath. With the tying run on base, Kath drew a walk making it a two-run game, 9-7. Burke made it a one-run game on an infield single, putting the tying run at third, but Miguel Pena got Chapelli to strike out on a full count as Rome held on for the win, 9-8.
Burke, Goosenberg and Willits all recorded multi-hit performances, with Burke and Gladney notching multi-RBI outings in the loss.
With the series tied 1-1, the Dash and Braves meet for game three on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. from AdventHealth Stadium.
